Treatment Courses

At the Albany Clinic we provide a full medical package for male to female Transsexuals. The mainstay of the treatment is the prescription only medication which can only be provided by a qualified doctor. The two primary treatments are;

OESTROGENS

This is the powerful female hormone, weaker versions are in the contraceptive pill and also in hormone replacement therapy for post menopausal women. This will cause breast development, softening of the skin,reduction in facial and body hair and improvements in scalp hair. Patients feel psychologically better when they are taking this. Many say they feel calm and relaxed. Aggression is reduced and the personality becomes more ‘feminine’. An additional factor is change in body shape towards the female form - narrow waist and wider hips. There are also side health benefits including reduction of cholesterol, lower heart disease, improved bone development and reduction of prostate disorders and cancer.

ANTI-ANDROGENS

Although Albany patients feel that they should be women, they have testicles which secrete testosterone. We prescribe a number of anti-androgens. The doctor decides what will suit which patient. These enhance the ‘oestrogen effect’. They are particularly effective in also reducing body hair, softening the skin and improving scalp hair. They reduce unwanted male characteristics. Apart from the two groups , we also provide a number of prescription strength creams for face, body and breasts. In conjunction with the tablets these can have dramatic effect. Apart from the standard treatments,some of our clients have individual needs and we provide specific therapy tailored to these needs.
